KR: Define "mature" sexual love? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Editor

Dr. Eric: My first thoughts would be that must be sex between people over the age of 60. Taking time to ponder the question makes me wonder why you chose the word mature, instead of healthy, wholesome, or life-giving. Perhaps we could define it by what it is NOT—“mature” sexual love is not immature sexual love. Immature sexual love is love that is life-stealing not life giving. Immature sexual love seeks to gratify one’s own desires and not the desires of another. Immature sexual love tends to be uni-dimensional, focused on the physical act and not on the context of the relationship.  Immature sexual love is about love… the love of self.

Thus, mature sexual love tends to be about the love of another. Greater love has no man than he lay down his life for another. Can the Holy Spirit so empower our love making that it actually gives life to another human being instead of taking something from them? Such a relationship takes time to develop. Such a relationship takes trust and intimacy. Such a relationship needs to “mature”.

Dr. Eric Sandras

Eric Sandras Having received his PH.D. in Human Development and Family Relations from Oregon State University , Eric Sandras is part of the next generation of leaders whom God is using to "raise the bar" in the relationships, faith, and life decisions of a postmodern generation. He is passionate about family, emergent church issues, and having extra butter on his popcorn at the movie theater.

Buck Naked Faith Take off your designer, postmodern phoniness. Strip off your pretty sounding words. Get your faith naked.

Honest and gritty, Eric Sandras encourages a generation of believers to drop the layers of make-believe nonsense that stunts our spiritual growth. What emerges is a positive alternative to life-crushing counterfeit faiths many of us are trying our best to work through.

To do this, there's no secret handshake or magic formula, but there is vision and encouragement to take the risk and get dangerously real with God. He exposes the naked truth: We need to dress our lives with a real friendship with God and nothing else.
